Hello again! This post is addressed to the contest participants. I have read over everyone's feedback from our AMV Contest survey and wanted to provide a few responses to some of the concerns that were expressed.

The category titles/definitions will likely be tweeked again for 2015. We are considering putting Parodies & Comedy together in a single joint category, among other changes.

No one who participated in the survey reported having any significant issues with the contest rules, with a few exceptions.

There was some confusion regarding the "your video must have won no more than 2 awards at previous contests" rule. This rule was put in place for two reasons. One, it helps our contest have a different selection of videos than what may have appeared in the contests from other conventions (so our contest doesn't end up just being a highlight all of the winners from conventions held in late 2013/early 2014). Second, it gives AMVs that have not yet won any awards a greater chance of winning, effectively "spreading the love" around the AMV editor community. The problem with this rule is that it has become increasinly difficult to enforce, because animemusicvideos.org is no longer the be-all-end-all resource for AMV information, and thus it has become harder to check whether a particular AMV has already won awards. We do still plan to keep this rule. However, we will add most likely reword it to make it more clear, and possibly add in an specific explanation of consequenses for any videos that are found to be in violation of this rule.

The "explicit content" rule is apparently too vague, judging by the number of videos we received this year that were disqualified for violating this rule. Several videos were disqualified by the AMV Cooridnators prior to the Judge's Screening, and a few more were disqualified during the Judge's Screening by the judges themselves. The rules speficy that any participating AMVs should be rated "PG". Although we have been pretty lax with this rule in regards to violent content, in regards to sexual content we can only bend the rule so far. Unfortunately, what counts as being "too explicit" can be quite subjective, and some of this year's contest participants were understandably vexed by being disqualified. We plan on revising the rules for next year to be much more specific on exactly what is and is not allowed.

If any Tora-Con 2014 AMV Contest participants have not participated in the survey yet, please e-mail us at amv@ritanimeclub.org and we will send you the link!
